Senior Airship Mechanic

We are hiring a Senior Airship Mechanic to maintain LTA’s airships in accordance with manufacturer and engineering technical data in Mountain View, CA, or Akron, OH. We believe in fast-cycle development and approach flight hardware with the motto “build a little, test a little, learn a lot.” The Senior Airship Mechanic will work directly with appropriate company personnel, organizing, planning, and executing planned and unplanned maintenance. This position will also provide additional operational support as required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Performing all maintenance activities on the airship, ensuring all work is conducted in accordance with manufacturer publications and FAA data
  • Maintaining all airship maintenance records in accordance with current FAA regulations
  • Leading planned and unplanned maintenance, including troubleshooting and making adjustments to the airship control systems
  • Coordinating and planning line maintenance activities
  • Leading activities in systems integration
  • Managing spare parts, consumable inventories, and tool control
  • Maintaining all airship maintenance support equipment, hydraulic power packs, maintenance platforms, and any additional equipment used to support the airship
  • Providing operational support and drive vehicles to assist with airship ground operations
  • Leading technical training for other mechanics

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of airship maintenance experience
  • FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) preferred
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant license required
  • Maintenance and repair experience on soft structures (envelopes, ballonets, gas cells) and associated valves
  • Maintenance experience on internal combustion aircraft engines
  • Maintenance management experience
  • Compliant with all environmental health and safety policies and procedures
  • Proficient in using calibrated tools, calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, and other hand tools
  • Proficient in operating man lifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and maintenance platforms
  • Proficient in maintaining aircraft logbooks and FAA records
  • Proficient in using engineering and mechanical drawings, as well as electrical, hydraulic, and fuel schematics
  • Familiarity with Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs) and other basic technology
  • Clean driving record and ability to get DOT driver license
  • Ability to pass a DOT drug test
  • Team attitude
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-starter that can fill time with productive tasks to help the entire test team
  • High school degree required, A.S. in Aviation Maintenance Technology desired

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with American Blimp Corporation A-60 and A-170 airships, including previous use of ABC Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog, and Service Bulletins
  • Completion of Rotax Factory Maintenance Initial Training
  • Experience coordinating and operating maintenance internationally
